2009 Talk

January 19, 2009

Well, seeing as 2008 has finally come to a close (it did seem to drag on a little bit, no?), I felt it proper to start writing a little bit about the new year, kind of a way to usher it in, if you will. So, let’s take a look at who could be next years T.V. on the Radio or 2009’s Guns ‘n Roses.

The Winners:

Animal Collective:
These guys have hit it big recently with their fairly successful album, Strawberry Jam. I was even reading through GQ and saw Animal Collective mentioned as a band “Not to miss”. While this may ruin their “indie cred”, it is still a big step for these fine fellows. Best of luck to them.

You can check out Animal Collective’s soon-to-be-released 8th album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, on January 20th (Domino)

Blink-182

Please don’t judge me. I actually do like blink-182. I know they’re not the most indie band in the world, but they’re (one of) my guilty pleasure(s). Rumor has it that they may be getting back together come 2009…more info when it actually happens.

Phish:

They’re reuniting for a tour…’nuff said.

Losers:

Guns ‘n Roses (again):

They will follow up Chinese Democracy with a tour and it will fall on it’s ass…sorry guys, you were good before “Use Your Illusion”

Linkin Park:

Remember when you used to like them. Don’t like, you know you did. You were around 12-14 and thought that they really were the greatest band ever. Then (hopefully) you grew out of it. Well, the boys over at Linkin Park are putting out a new album some time in 2009 and it’s sure to be another deviation from what made them so popular in the early 2000’s…angry rock mixed with rap (when both were popular and relevant).

That’s all for now…maybe I’ll add to this later…or maybe not.
